Our Mission
Friends of McCarren Park is dedicated to the preservation and enhancement of McCarren Park. We strive to create a vibrant, welcoming, and sustainable green space for all. Through fundraising, direct action, and community engagement we aim to improve the park's natural beauty, recreational facilities, and programming. Our mission is to further the community's interests and continually improve the park in partnership with the NYC Parks Department.
Our Priorities
We're interested in understanding what's valuable to the community so that we can focus our efforts on the most important areas. These are some examples reflecting initial feedback we have collected:
- Re-seeding the lawn: you may have noticed that some areas are quite patchy or completely barren
- Enhancing the dog run: it's nice to have a space for dogs, but it's frequently muddy and could use some improvements
- Increasing trash collection: during busy weekend times, trash can pile up and attract pests
About Us
We're a group of North Brooklyn residents looking to make a positive impact on the park. At this stage, we're gathering feedback from the community and gauging interest in contributing to park improvements. We're working with the Parks Department to understand how the local community can augment their efforts, and with sufficient traction we'll look to establish a formal 501(c)(3) that can accept donations, apply for grants, and act on the community's wishes.
